Since their formation in 2012, Leftwing & Kody have certainly made a strong case for title of UK’s finest musical exports. Just one year after they joined forces, both Mixmag and DJ Mag tabbed the supremely talented duo as artist’s to watch out for and have since gone on to hold residencies at some of Europe’s top clubs, including Fabric and Sankeys. In addition, the duo have scored releases on major labels such as Suara, Knee Deep In Sound, Hot Creations, and most recently Mobilee Records. The release on Mobilee comes in the form of a stellar three track production known as the Squaring Circles EP and is without a doubt one of their most sophisticated releases to date.
The title track, ‘Squaring Circles’, is a bouncy Tech House jam rich in open-faced hi hats and a looped vocal echo that lingers in the background. With a thumping sub kick and elongated builds and breaks that are thinned out with proper distortion techniques, this one is sure to be a mainstay in any Tech House fan’s playlist.
On the track ‘Torus’, Leftwing & Kody present another high energy, dance floor bomb that utilizes cachy synth patterns and a looped vocal sample. With a strong backbone held together by a groovin’ percussive rhythm, the drop features repetitive snare rhythms layered over the synths and vocal bits.
The duo closes things out with the track ‘Future’, a slightly more down tempo tune than the first two tracks. Lower end synths shatter the background as incessant snare and hi-hats rattle the listener’s ear drums. Certainly a much more deep and ambient release than its counterparts, ‘Future’ was clearly designed for the later hours of the evening.
