We’re only days away from the end of 2016 and the subsequent ringing in of the new year. As preparations are made and plans are solidified, the Dirtybird Records crew only found it fitting to celebrate with some new music for your listening pleasure. The New Years Eve Special, Vol. 2 returns this year with music from several of Claude’s personal favorites and Tech House’s rising talents, in a release that followed the wildly successful first installment this time last year. Rounding out a hectic 2016, the compilation boasts tracks from the likes of Ciszak, Weiss, Walker & Royce, and Sage Armstrong, and certainly has a little something for everybody to get down to.
Volume 2 opens up with one of Claude’s personal favorites. A track he’s made a point to play out relatively frequently as of late, ‘La Bomba’ is the latest romper from rising talent Ciszak. ‘La Bomba’ has a catchy vocal loop, a groovy synth line, and heavy percussive beats that all lead in to a crafty breakdown, the perfect opener for this compilation.
‘Hit Dem Draws’ is to follow, coming from another Dirtybird regular, Walker & Royce. With a video game-like synth line, a scintillating high end, and a simplistic percussive rhythm, Walker & Royce hit all the marks with ‘Hit Dem Draws’ even before dropping in to a tripped out breakdown.
Sage Armstrong makes his return to the Dirtybird label with ‘Turn You On’. With that unmistakably Sage Armstrong sound, ‘Turn You On’ features a nice blend of soothing synth lines, trippy percussive rhythms, and mind bending and heavily distorted vocals.
Weiss caps off a stellar 2016 with an appearance on the compilation titled ‘Walk With Her’. Bringing a fresh change of pace to the comp, Weiss’s UK influences are hard to miss in a track that is backed by rolling bass lines and funky nuances. Things taper off for a hot moment immediately prior to the breakdown before out of nowhere Weiss slaps you in the face with enough rhythm and funk to keep your feet movin’ all night long.
Elevator Musik drops one of the smoothest records on the whole compilation in ‘Janky’. Prepare for a journey highlighted by looped vocals, rattling low ends, and crisp hi-hats as the rising artist makes a statement towards the end of this release.
