Anonymous DJ and producer Malaa has released his largest body of work to date. The Illegal Mixtape, which has been teased for some time now, saw its release this weekend, boasting a total of 12 tracks from the rising artist. The EP comes via Tchami’s CONFESSION imprint, which has been the primary home for Malaa over the last couple of years.
UK talent Maximono makes an appearance with ‘Bring Ur 9’, a sinister and rolling release with wonky high end melodies and a slamming main frame.
Dateless brings a funky Bass-driven tune by the name of ‘Boost Morale’. The record borders on Tech and Bass House, blending together the best of two of the biggest labels Dateless has released on (Confession, Dirtybird). The record’s tripped out vocal and wonky bass line make this one perfect for the peak time or after-hours portions of the evening.
Leading up to the collaboration with Malaa, Gerry Gonza turns in a crisp cut with lush drum fills titled ‘Optimus’. The track has an intricate percussive rhythm, soft synth lines, and a groovy bass line in the back end, but really leaves its mark with the looped vocal sample shouting ‘I’m Optimus Prime, Bitch!’.
Skitzofrenix & Jurgensen flex their production muscle on ‘The Real Low’. The infectious melody, sinister rhythms, and heaven-touched synths make this one of our favorites of the release.
Jace Mek, Bellacour, FromDropTilDawn, and Ghostea also make appearances on the compilation, which is currently available for streaming on Soundcloud. Check out Malaa on his social media pages, and be on the for the six-stop mini tour running through the beginning of May.
