Named for the high school the three of them attended in Detroit, Michigan, Juan Atkins, Derrick May, and Kevin Saunderson have been known as The Belleville Three as long as they’ve been playing music. Having pioneered the sounds of Detroit techno, Atkins, May, and Saunderson have been producing and DJing for well over three decades now, with Saunderson’s KMS Records imprint celebrating 30 years this year, yet have seldom shared the stage together over the years.
This Memorial Day Weekend, that all changes. Atkins, May, and Saunderson are scheduled to perform as The Belleville Three during Detroit’s Movement festival for just the second time ever, the first being at Coachella earleir this year. Of the performance, Kevin Saunderson said in an interview with Billboard:
‘I think we may have a little more anxiety than we probably would at any other gig because it’s home.’
Following their performance in downtown Detroit, the guys have announced they have plans to travel the world doing shows as The Belleville Three. The project will start as mainly DJ-oriented with a few drum machines on the side while the three icons work towards a 100% live performance.
Fans can expect to hear new releases from each artist as well as some of their classics during the upcoming performances.
Catch The Belleville Three during Movement from 9:00-10:30pm at the main stage and at their after party with Richie Hawtin on Saturday, May 27th.
