It’s Memorial Day Weekend and most techno fanatics are either on their way or prepping for the annual pilgrimage to Detroit. This time each year, the Motor City is covered in nonstop house and Techno Thursday-Sunday. Almost as big as Movement, the after party scene has taken on a life of its own in recent years and now presents arguably as much entertainment throughout the weekend as the festival itself.
Most have had their after party tickets and plans solidified for weeks now, but as many can attest, most of those plans go right out the window when things begin to get hot and sweaty. For those who are still undecided, Dance and Rave has narrowed down some of the can’t-miss parties going down this weekend for you to consider when your brain doesn’t feel like making any decisions.
Sampled Detroit 15th Anniversary – Official Movement Afterparty
This year, Detroit native Chuck Daniels celebrates a massive 15 years with his record label, Sampled Detroit. Sunday, May 28th Chuck and co. take over the infamous Marble Bar for an evening of back-to-back madness.
The legendary Mark Farina will be providing an early Mushroom Jazz set and a late night house set, while Gene Farris and Kenny Glasgow, Jason Hodges and Wally Callerio, Shaun J. Wright and DJ Holographic all perform back-to-back. Junior Sanchez is joined by Jesse Rose, who is currently on his farewell tour, and Detroit’s Punisher is joined by Buffalo’s own Rufus Gibson.
Tickets for this joint are still available, so peep the event page and grab your tickets.
This party absolutely rocked it last year. Teaming with the Interdimensional Transmissions crew, Tresor officially makes their return to the Tangent Gallery on Saturday, May 27th.
Silent Servant, who turned arguably the most technically sound and overall exhilarating performance of the night last year, returns with a stellar cast alongside him. Claude Young and Clay Wilson will both turn in DJ performances, while Civil Defense Programme, Christina Sealey, and Thomas Fehlman & Terrence Dixon will be providing live performances.
Country Club Disco x Fk A Genre
Country Club Disco, manned by one of the hottest acts based in Detroit currently in Golf Clap, is going head to head with Mija and her Fk A Genre brand on Sunday, May 28th.
The party, which takes place at The Annex, is headlined by Golf Clap and Mija themselves, with rising talents such as Billy Kenny and Codes on support.
In addition, Eyes Everywhere, of Buffalo, is on the bill following their release ‘Bout That’ on Mark Knight’s Toolroom Records. NYC’s Greco was a late add, as well, and has been making waves with his recently launched Rawsome Recordings imprint.
KMS Records – Elevate Your Mind
Techno legend Kevin Saunderson and his record label KMS Records continue the 30 year celebrations with the Elevate Your Mind event at The Magic Stick (Formerly Populux) on Sunday, May 28th.
Top to bottom, this lineup rivals just about any other event all weekend long as Robert Hood // Floorplan, The Saunderson Brothers, and inSOUL provide support in the main room while Adam Port, Francesca Lombardo and Chuck Daniels are all holding down the patio.

IT Presents: The Bunker
If you’ve never been to a Bunker party, this is an absolute do not miss. The interdimensional Transmissions crew curates some of the best parties, not only in New York, but across the country, and their yearly party during MDW at the Tangent Gallery is no different.
Mike Servito is joined by Justin Cudmore and Gunnar Haslam for a Hot Mix performance, with Eris Drew, Antenes, and Israel Vines all providing beats. Two international headliners tba are expected to join to close each room as well.
