Riva Starr has long been regarded as an ambitious individual. The acclaimed UK house artist has experimentation written all over his back catalog, a list that includes releases with heavy hip hop influences all the way through to collaborations with house legend Green Velvet.
Last month, Starr embarked on his most recent venture. Brock Wild Records was created to cater to the more bass heavy and left field styles of music Riva puts out occasionally aside from the releases on his Snatch! label and other imprints. The label was launched on June 30th with the two-track The Wickedest Sound EP coming from the label boss himself.
The EP’s title track, ‘The Wickedest Sound’, is a melting pot of influences, pulling from house, techno, hip hop, and a plethora of various sound effects including engine jets and lasers. The record features some lo-fi, rasta-heavy vocal bits amidst a chunky rhythm, rattling hi hats, and some seriously heavy synth blasts that make this one perfect for bigger crowds and venues.
‘Pull Up’ features Zanyilla, an Amsterdam-based artist who’s gained support from the likes of Mad Decent and Diplo in recent memory. The record starts with a solid 4/4 rhythm and rinses through a mixture of filtered vocal cuts and silky smooth TR909-laden percussion throughout the tracks 6 minute duration.
