Bandcamp is donating 100% of their share of today’s proceeds to benefit the nonprofit organization known as the Transgender Law Center.
The move comes as a response to recent orders made by the US Presidential administration banning transgender troops from serving in the military. Their share of today’s proceeds, from midnight to midnight, to the Transgender Law Center, an organization that works to change laws and policies in favor of equality. In addition, they work in litigation, fight for healthcare for trans veterans, defend those that have been incarcerated, assist trans immigrants, and help trans youths tell their stories.
Bandcamp was founded in 2007 by Ethan Diamond and programmer Shawn Grunberger. The idea was to give smaller artists more direct control over their sales, free music downloads, and donations of profits by providing each artist with a microsite to customize.
