The 5th Dance and Rave release comes as the official debut for one of WNY’s most promising young producers. Matt Carpenter, otherwise known as Shako, has spent time in just about every corner of the state sharpening his mixing and production skills over the last few years.
After living and studying in NYC for a few years, where he picked up gigs with groups such as NYCTechno, he moved back to Rochester and held a residency on the only set of Funktion 1 speakers in the area, the back room of Pearl Nightclub, before they announced their closure. He opened for major acts such as J. Phlip at Sky Bar this past summer and after several years of producing, makes his official debut release on Dance and Rave with ‘Mastermind’.
‘Mastermind’ is everything we look for in a track to release: a driving rhythm, purposeful restraint, and power in subtlety. This track is designed for any occasion, as it has enough power, thanks in large part to a throbbing kick, to hold its own during peak time and a laid back lead melody that is both provocative and hypnotic, to really take anyone within ear shot on a cosmic journey. ‘Mastermind’ is filled out with hollowed percussive rhythms and fills that trail just behind the lead for depth prior to leading a rattled synth line in to an explosive breakdown touched with distant vocals.
