As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. After running the House and Techno scene in Buffalo for the better part of the last decade, the Igloo Music crew is stepping away from the monthly event platform they’ve held on to for several years. With one of the crew’s pivotal members, John Patrick, moving down south and Buffalo looking for a change, Rufus Gibson plans to keep the ball rolling by instilling his monthly series titled Rufus Gibson Presents. Alongside JP, Rufus has been one of the driving factors behind the Igloo crew as well as an instrumental member of rising event group REDUX, but will be using his solo monthly to share the decks with hand selected talent from across the continent.
Kicking things off is Community Links founders Matt & Molly on February 17th. Well versed in the realms of Techno and Minimal music, the Boston based duo have been laying down proper beats in Beantown for years with curated events like the weekly Techno Taco Tuesday. With a three hour set lined up, Matt & Molly are sure to show Buffalo how Boston gets down.
March sees a pair of selectors from the neighboring city of Rochester. Having both played an instrumental role in the rise of Signal > Noise, Eric Flex Harris and Jim Kempkes will be heading westward on March 18th for an evening of delectable House and Techno.
NYC based artist John Barera makes his heavily anticipated return to Western New York on April 15th. Last go around, Barera played not one, but two parties in the region in the same night, taking no prisoners at either stop. This go around looks to be no different as Rufus and John share the decks of Gypsy Parlor for an evening.
Jason Hodges, a frequent Buffalo visitor, will be journeying down from Toronto for the May 20th shindig. Hodges never disappoints and every outing in Buffalo is just as proper as the last so we’ll see you there.
June 17th sees Detroit artist Ryan Dahl man the decks. Having spent years honing his craft in one of the birth places of Techno music, Dahl has graced the decks of many of Detroit’s famed after parties, having yet to disappoint.
Paul Kuenzi will be returning to his hometown on July 15th. Having grown up in the region, Paul has been a recognized talent in WNY longer than most. After moving to Denver, Kuenzi began to build his brand, eventually founding the after party collective Primeval not too long ago.
With the first half of the year’s schedule already locked and loaded, Buffalo’s House and Techno scene can already expect some quality talent rolling through the first half of the year. In addition, the second half of Rufus Gibson Presents is already shaping up to be in good hands, so keep your eyes peeled for more announcements. As usual, cover is only $5 to get in and well worth the beat down so we hope to see some of you out on select dates!
